Brad Kuhn of Danville, Ind. closed out the Indianapolis Speedrome
Regional
Midget Car Series with his second win of the year Saturday afternoon. He
led
the final 22 laps of the 50-lapper at the 1/5-mile paved Indianapolis oval
in his Infinity Products/Avon Transmission/Dugan Chevrolet VW after
withstanding the challenge of series champion Daryl Campbell.
Campbell, fighting a car which would stall at slow speeds, fought off sluggish restarts to come from the back of the pack to pass Kuhn on the backstretch on lap 43 but he and Kuhn touched in turn four, resulting in a Campbell spinout. That left Kuhn to continue to the checkered flag unchallenged.
Campbell, however, emerged as the series champion with a 59-point cushion over runner-up Rick Treadway, who also failed to finish Saturday's race after a tangle with Andy Anderson.
Matt Maners finished second ahead of "Rookie of the Year" Eric Roberts, Jeff Leonard and Ron Hamm. Maners led 26 of the 50 laps but finally yielded to Kuhn on lap 29.
Campbell and Kuhn won the preliminary 15-lap heat races.
