Daryl Campbell of Carmel, Ind. locked up his first USAC driving
championship with Saturday night's 25-lap feature victory at Mount Lawn
Speedway in new Castle, Ind. He clinched the 2000 Indianapolis Speedrome
Regional Midget Series title with only the October 8 finale at the
Speedrome's 1/5-mile pavement remaining on the calendar.
Campbell led all 25 laps around Mount Lawn's tricky 3/10-mile paved oval in his Jack's Pizza/AFCO Shocks VW to beat Rick Treadway, Andy Anderson, Jason Burgess and Joe Justice to the checkered flag. Treadway, the series point runnerup, was the fastest qualifier and won the first heat. Anderson also won a heat race.
A 50-lap feature event concludes Sunday afternoon's racing program at the Speedrome, which gets under way at 1:30 pm.
