Former USAC MCI WorldCom TQ Midget Car Champion Rick Hendrix of Simi Valley, Calif. made his second series appearance of this season a winning one Saturday night at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. He led all 20 laps to beat series point leader J.J. Ercse, Todd Hunsaker, fast qualifier Walt Johnson and lady driver Randi Pankratz to the checkered flag.
Saturday night's victory the 15th career TQ Midget triumph for Hendrix, who finished second in a race at Irwindale in July.
Ercse's second-place finish, coupled with Johnson's fourth-place, left Johnson 10 points in arrears with the next MCI WorldCom TQ Midget Car race scheduled at Bakersfield, Calif. November 18. The originally-scheduled October 21 race at Irwindale has been cancelled.
Bobby Boone of Palmdale, Calif. and Wally Pankratz of Orange, Calif. are scheduled to continue their tremendous battle for the 2000 USAC MCI WorldCom Western Midget Car Championship this Saturday night at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. Boone, who leads Pankratz by a single point, fared the better of the two when the series visitied Hanford in May. Boone was sixth in that race, while Pankratz was 12th. A 30-lap feature is planned on the 3/8-mile dirt oval.
