NHRA seeks general manager for Indianapolis Raceway Park

GLENDORA, Calif. - The National Hot Rod Association's (NHRA) premier facility, Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP), has announced a nationwide search for a director of sales and marketing/general manager.

IRP is the site of the most prestigious drag racing event in the world, the U.S. Nationals, and hosts more than 125 days of racing for NASCAR, USAC and NHRA on its drag strip, oval and road course. The 307-acre multi-purpose motorsports facility is located in Clermont, Ind., just a short drive from downtown Indianapolis.

"We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record in sales and marketing," said Cary Menard, NHRA vice president of business and legal affairs. "Our goal is to recruit a top caliber individual and we are confident that the candidates will feature a list of who's who in motorsports."

The selected candidate will provide hands-on professional leadership of the IRP sales and marketing effort and general management direction to the entire on-site staff. The multi-purpose facility is one of six owned and operated by NHRA. Other tracks include Atlanta Dragway (Commerce, Ga.), Gainesville Raceway (Gainesville, Fla.), National Trail Raceway (Hebron, Ohio), Pomona Raceway (Pomona, Calif.) and State Capitol Dragway (Erwinville, La.).

Recently, IRP hosted the 46th annual U.S. Nationals that featured the most recognizable names in drag racing as part of the NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series. NHRA will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2001.

Headquartered in Glendora, Calif., the NHRA is the primary sanctioning body for the sport of drag racing in the United States. It presents 23 national events through its NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series. The NHRA has 85,000 racers and members nationwide and 144 member tracks. The NHRA-sanctioned sportsman and bracket racing series' provide competition opportunities for drivers of all levels. The NHRA develops the stars of tomorrow by offering the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, NHRA Summit Racing Series and the Street Legal Program. The NHRA also offers the Castrol GTX Jr. Drag Racing League for youths ages 8 to 17.
