NHRA: Hines goes for fifth straight Holley Dominator Duel victory

CLERMONT, Ind. -Matt Hines will try for his fifth straight victory in the Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel as the No. 1 seed, a special event for NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle competitors Sept. 2 during the 46th U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

The total purse for the ninth annual Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel is $36,000. The winner will earn $15,000. Any rider who can win the Duel and the U.S. Nationals on Sept. 4 will earn a $10,000 bonus from the NHRA.

The Duel runner-up will earn $5,000. The two semi-finalists will earn $3,000 each, while the four first-round finishers will earn $2,500 apiece. Three-time NHRA Winston Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Hines, from Trinidad, Colo., has dominated the event during the last four seasons. He earned the event title as a rookie in 1996, again in 1997, and has defeated rival Angelle Seeling for the crown the last two seasons.

Hines claimed the No. 1 spot for the special event by earning 10 No. 1 qualifying efforts during the 15 NHRA events preceding the Duel. Pro Stock Motorcycle riders receive $51,000 during the Duel series. In addition to the $36,000 available in the Duel, $15,000 in bonuses are awarded to quick qualifiers throughout the Duel series.

Team Winston Suzuki rider Seeling enters the special event as the No. 2 seed with three No. 1 qualifying efforts.

Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel rounds are scheduled for 11:45 a.m., 1:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 2.
