Irwindale, Calif. - - No, they won't be doing the driving
in the Silicon Speedway
50 for the inaugural Mayor's Cup at Irwindale Speedway, but they will be
pulling
for "their" driver to win one for the home team. Twenty area mayors have
been
invited to Irwindale Speedway by the City of Irwindale, the Irwindale
Chamber
of Commerce, and the track to enjoy a night of racing and to place the
name of
their city on one of the top twenty qualifiers in the Food 4 Less Super
Late
Model division race on that night. Cities who have signed up for the first Irwindale Speedway Mayor's Cup include: Alhambra, Arcadia, Azusa, Baldwin, Bradbury, Covina, El Monte, Glendora, Industry, Irwindale, La Puente, LaVerne, Monrovia, Pasadena, Rosemead, Rosemead, South El Monte, South Pasadena, Temple City, Walnut, West Covina.
"We wanted to involve the top leadership of the surrounding cities here at the Speedway, so we invited our city government and chamber of commerce to get together and invite the mayors from twenty other municipalities to enjoy a special night at the races with us," explained Pat Patterson, Irwindale Speedway's VP of Marketing.
"We'll put the name of each city on each of the twenty top cars in the first Super Late Model 50-lap main event sponsored by Silicon Speedway." The winning city's Mayor and the Mayor of Irwindale will be part of the victory celebration at the start/finish line and that city's name will be inscribed on the Mayor's Cup trophy to celebrate the event.
Prior to the races, representatives of the participating cities will gather with Irwindale city officials, Chamber representatives, track officials, and racing drivers in an informal reception at the Speedway.
