BLOOMINGTON, IN Indianapolis 500 fans will have an opportunity to whet their appetite for open wheel racing Friday night (May 26) at Bloomington Speedway. Not only will the lines at the rest rooms be shorter; but the finishes will probably be closer. A two car length lead as the checkered flag falls is a near runaway at Bloomington Speedway.

The Pennzoil Cup sprint car racers will be only on their second week of competition on May 26; and coveted Pennzoil Cup will still be anybodys to win. Derek Scheffel, Pennzoil Cup champion in 1998 and 1999, has declared that he is focused, more than ever, on winning the championship again. Bud Cunningham of Spencer has similar designs on the championship. Many of the other top sprint performers from last season will probably be battling for their own championship. Kenny Carmichael narrowly missed last season; and we can probably expect to see him trying just a little harder this year.

Open wheel modifieds and super stocks will also be in competition on the 26th. While Bloomington Speedway always brings out a good field of Pennzoil Cup sprint cars; but the pits will be absolutely full of ONeal Wood Products open wheel modifieds and Tire and Wheel Center Indiana super stocks. All of this promises race fans a full evening of exciting competition on May 26.

Grandstand admission for this special event is only $10 and pit admission is $20. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstands open at 5:30, hot laps are at 6:30, and racing begins at 7:30. Overnight camping is permitted.
