DETROIT - The Dayton Indy Lights Championship has been
added
to the CART racing lineup at the Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix of Houston as
a
replacement event for the previously announced season-ending race at the
Aruba Motorsports Complex, which has been cancelled by event organizers.
The schedule switch, which will see the Oct. 1 Houston race serve as the 11th of 12 events on the 2000 Dayton Indy Lights calendar, marks the first appearance of CART's top-level development series in Texas.
The Texaco/Havoline Grand Prix of Houston debuted in 1998 with the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship among the support series on the schedule. This year's race will mark the first time race fans in Houston will see both of CART's "Ladder System" series in action, in addition to the FedEx Championship Series.
The Indy Lights season will now conclude, as it has for the past three years, at California Speedway, Oct. 29.
Round Two of the Dayton Indy Lights Championship will be run during the Miller Lite 225 weekend at The Milwaukee Mile, June 4. The season-opening race in Long Beach, Calif., last month was won by Scott Dixon.
