Indianapolis, IN - A record field of front engined Top
Fuel dragsters is
expected to attend the 12th Goodguys Hot Rod Nationals June 9, 10 & 11 at
Indianapolis Raceway Park. Leading the charge will be the South San
Francisco based duo of Champion Speed Shop and Gotelli Speed Shop.
The two rivals faced each other in last years final which saw veteran Sammy Hale get the win over Top Fuel rookie Larry Gotelli Jr. This year, former NHRA Top Fuel racer Rance McDaniel will pilot the small-block Chevy powered Champion Speed Shop Special into battle at the Hot Rod Nationals. Joining the Champion and Gotelli entries will be Jack Harris Utah based "Nitro Thunder" entry, Frank Hedge and the "Mastercam" car (driven by current NHRA Top Fuel racer Tim Gibson), Tacoma, Washingtons Jason Howell, Jim Cullens Texas based entry, the Iowa team of Dale Suhr and Roger Lechtenberg, the Bach & Gould Ford Cammer from Illinois among others. Over 16 Top Fuel entries are expected.
Competition will be held in nine different classes for drag racing entries through 1972 vintage. Joining the drag racing action on IRPs legendary quarter mile strip will be a massive rod & custom show & shine for rods, customs & classics through 1964 vintage. An automotive swap meet, a giant manufacturers midway help make the Hot Rod Nationals one of the nations largest nostalgic hot rodding events.
