Saturday turned out to be a much different day. There was very limited
cloud
cover for most of the day and the sun put additional heat on the racing
surface. Late in the afternoon the clouds retuned with cooler air.
Troy Coughlin and his yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass came into the third qualifying session sitting in the No. 3 spot. Troy took on the left lane. He launched from the starting line beams and the car looked like it was on a string going down the track, it was dead straight all the way down the track.
Troy and his JEG'S machine made the quickest run of the session. He ran a very impressive 6.900 at 199.43 mph. "That was a great run." Troy went on to say, "Although we did not improve, making a run like that shows that our team has a firm handle on the set up and that the car is responding well to all of the changes that we made."
Jeg Coughlin rolled into the third session holding down the No. 2 position. The JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass battled the right lane. The car left the line and lost traction, but immediately returned to the center of the groove and sped toward the finishline.
No improvement for Jeg in the third session. He ran a 6.928 at 198.85 mph and was 5th in et and mph for the session.
Jeg commented, "The guys on our team are really doing a great job reading the track and it shows."
In the final qualifying session Troy Coughlin was in the first pair of cars and lined up in the right lane. The JEG'S machine left the starting line and cruised to the big end. He ran a 6.948 at 197.59 mph.
Troy remained in the No. 3 position and will have lane choice over Larry Morgan in the first round. "Our program is really looking solid going into raceday," stated Troy.
Jeg Coughlin entered the final qualifying session sitting in the No. 2 slot. The yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass took on the left lane. Jeg left the starting line like a rocket. He was the quickest car of the session and ran a 6.889 at 198.79 mph.
"The car made a little move about 100' feet out and than took off." Coughlin added, "Our team is really looking forward to raceday. We have a great handle on the set up." Jeg will face off against Darrell Alderman in the first round of the Mac Tools Gatornationals, Coughlin will have lane choice when the two meet.
Jeg and Troy will start raceday from the same side of the ladder. The two JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass' will meet in the semifinal round if the team has their way tomorrow.
