The 2000 USAC racing schedules were adjusted today to accommodate
the new
owners of the Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway, who have selected dates for the
Stoops
Freightliner Sprint Cars and MCI WorldCom National Midget Series at the
1/4-mile dirt oval located about 45 miles north of Indianapolis.
The Sprint Cars will visit Kokomo on Sunday night, July 23 as the third round of the Pennzoil "Indiana Sprint Week." The date was made available by the organizers at North Vernon (Ind.) Speedway, who agreed to move their Pennzoil "Indiana Sprint Week" date to the following Thursday night, July 27, which makes it now round four of the seven-round event.
The MCI WorldCom National Midget Cars will return to Kokomo for a complete program of events on Saturday night, July 8.
New Kokomo Speedway co-owners Mark Owsley and Dick Bronson have extensive backgrounds in racing. Owsley competed in the USAC Sprint Car Series in the mid and late-1980s and more recently drove late models and modifieds at central Indiana tracks. Bronson, currently a radio announcer at WWKI Radio in Kokomo, has been an announcer at Kokomo and in the 1970s competed in stock car events as a driver.
