USAC: 40 Dates, 60 Races on USAC's Western Schedules for 2000

A total of 60 races on 40 dates are listed on the preliminary 2000 USAC Western series racing schedules released today by Tommy Hunt, USAC VP/Western Operations Director, from USAC's Western headquarters in Rancho Cordova, Calif.

The Western Sprint Car Series includes 19 races at 11 different tracks, while the MCI WorldCom Midget Cars visit 11 different tracks for 29 races, eight of which will also afford National points. The preliminary MCI WorldCom TQ Midget Car slate lists a dozen events at four different speedways.

At least one brand-new facility will join the USAC fold in 2000, the paved oval at Dodge City (Kans.) Raceway Park playing host to the Western Sprint Cars on June 3.

Returning to the USAC schedule after a hiatus in 1999 are Santa Maria (Calif.) Speedway, Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway, Meridian Speedway in Boise, Idaho and Altamont Raceway Park in Tracy, Calif. Events at Perris include MidgetCar/TQ Midget Car doubleheaders March 18 and July 22, Midget Car events May 20 and Oct. 27-28 and TQ Midget Car events April 29 and June 17. Meridian hosts a July 15 race, while Santa Maria hosts a September 9 TQ Midget Car/Midget Car doubleheader and Tracy hosts May 7 and September 17 Sprint car races.

The series openers will be Feb. 4-6 at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway (Midgets); March 11 at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway (TQ Midgets Cars); and March 25 at Madera (Calif.) Speedway (Sprint Cars). Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway currently is listed as the site for the series finales, Sept. 23 (Sprint Cars) and Nov. 23 (Midget Cars and TQ Midget Cars).

Defending series champions are Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Calif. (Sprint Cars), Marc DeBeaumont of Clayton, Calif. (MCI WorldCom Midget Cars) and Josh Wise 0f Riverside, Calif. (MCI WorldCom TQ Midget Cars).
