NHRA: Troy Off To A Good Start ; Jeg Will Focus On Improving Tomorrow

The Pro Stock cars made one qualifying attempt today at Pomona Raceway. The sky was clear and the mountains could be seen clearly in the distance looking over the track.

Jeg was the first of the familiar yellow and black JEG'S cars to take on the quarter mile battle field. Jeg was in the left lane during the first qualifying session. The car launched from the starting line and almost immediately ran into problems, Jeg shut off.

Jeg stated, "We will be ready for the second session tomorrow and I'm looking forward to making a big move."

Troy took on the right lane during the first session. The car left the starting line and charged toward the big end. The car made a little move with the rear in second and third gear. The car then hooked up and planted the horsepower to the track. Troy ended up in the number five position after the first session.

Troy said, When I put the car into fourth and fifth gear it took off. The car seemed to respond well to the setup, we will fine tune from here for tomor row."

Both JEG'S Trucks Looking To Improve Position Tomorrow

The Pro Stock Truck class got two qualifying sessions today at the NHRA Auto Club Finals. This race marks the end of the second full season for NHRA's newest competition class.

In the first qualifying session John was in the right lane. The yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order S-10 launched from the starting line and headed down the middle of the groove. The truck moved around in second gear, but quickly calmed down.

John landed in the number seven position after the first session. Coughlin explained, "The run that we made gave us a good baseline to tune from. The track here normally gets better as the weekend goes on and it gets more runs on it."

Mike Coughlin also lined up in the right lane for the first qualifying session. He left the starting line and shook a little in low gear. The JEG'S machine darted toward the finishline and ran a respectable 7.654 at 176.53 mph. The run was good enough to put Mike and his JEG'S Mail Order Chevy S-10 in the number six slot.

Mike commented, "We are using a different combination here and we are off to a good start. The number seven spot is a good place to improve from."

In the second session John was in the left lane. He left the starting line and the truck made a move to the left. John quickly returned to the center of the groove and took off toward the finishline.

John improved his qualifying time and he stayed in the number six spot. John said, "The run had some room for improvement and we will work toward moving up in the field tomorrow."

Mike lined up in the left lane also during the second session. The truck left the starting line beams and seemed to hesitate. He stayed in the middle of the groove. Mike did not improve and slipped to the number fifteen spot.

Mike commented, "Things just did not gel during the second session for me. I know that we will come out swinging tomorrow."
