SHREVEPORT, LA.-- Larry Snyder, the IHRA Super Eliminator Champion has dominated the division this season. With his announcement that he would retire after this season, his determination to stay on top has been challenged every time his bright orange Spitzer dragster has taken the track. He has managed to clinch the championship for 1999, but lost a transmission in the quarter-final round, ending his day, season and driving career.

He only had one comment, "It's been fun."

Snyder didn't offer up his best effort in the first qualifying session with a 6.378/213.40. He stepped up in the second session with a respectable 6.243/217.35.

Snyder made his last qualifying attempts aggressive ones. He opened Saturday's qualifying with a 6.168/220.23. He later improved with a 6.132/217.49. He finished as the top qualifier and gained the bye run in the first round.

Snyder went full throttle on his competition bye-run, posting a 6.131/220.22 run, the quickest run of the round. This gave him lane choice against Dan Bandish going into the second round of eliminations.

Snyder appeared to be going for a low e.t. run, but popped the transmission, and gave Bandish an easy win.
