IRL: Pep Boys Indy Racing League Medical Update, Schmidt, Unser, Goodyear, others

INDIANAPOLIS- Dr. Henry Bock, Pep Boys Indy Racing League director of medical services, issued an update of the conditions of drivers and crew members who remained hospitalized after the Mall.com 500 on Oct. 17 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth:

Drivers (all injuries suffered during race Oct. 17)

Scott Goodyear: Released at 2 p.m. (EDT) Oct. 18 from Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. Tests for possible concussion and possible injury to left ankle were negative.

Sam Schmidt: In good condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas with a fractured left foot, a fractured toe on his right foot and ankle pain.

Robby Unser: In good condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas with rib or chest discomfort.

Crew members (all injuries suffered in pit-road accident during final practice Oct. 16)

Tom Bose: In fair condition at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth with rib fractures.

Tracy Hash: In serious condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas with a compound fracture of the left leg above the ankle.

Jeff Howerton: In fair condition at John Peter Smith in Fort Worth with a broken right leg.
