NHRA: Coughlin Brothers Will Face Off In Round One

The Pro Stock class began their third qualifying session today, but it was the second full session of the weekend. Last night a heavy rain storm took over the Memphis Motorsports Park facility again. The NHRA safety safari was busy off and on drying the track between the mist and rain.

Finally at 11:40 PM Friday night NHRA canceled the second Pro Stock session with eight car remaining to run the session. The eight drivers who were unable to run lost their chance to either get in to the field of sixteen or improve. NHRA announced that their would be a third session, which would be the second full qualifying session Sunday morning.

Troy was one of the drivers who was able to make a run during the second session. His run was an improvement over his previous time and he marched up to the number two position.

On the other hand, Jeg was one of the eight drivers who lost their chance to make a run during the second session. Jeg slipped down to the number seven slot.

During the third session Troy and his #24 JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass took on the left lane. The yellow and black car launched from the starting line and followed to groove all the way to the big end. Troy improves his qualifying time, but drops one spot and lands in the number three position.

Troy stated, "We have continued run well and my hat goes the team, they work together and make it all happen."

Jeg lined up in the right lane for the third and final Pro Stock qualifying session. The #2 JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass left the starting line beams and took off toward the finishline. The car did not hook up as well as the team would have liked. Jeg improves his qualifying time and fell to the number fourteen spot.

Jeg noted, "We were a little on the aggressive side during the last session, but we felt that the track could take it."

In the first round Troy Coughlin will have lane choice over his younger brother Jeg. Having the two JEG'S machines face off in the first round is certainly not what the team had in mind coming into the final qualifying session. However, one of the JEG'S Mail Order cars will advance to the next round and get closer to the final round.
