FORT WORTH-DALLAS - Texans will be the principals in the fight for the Pep Boys Million championship prize Sunday, Oct. 17 as the Indy Racing League determines its season champion in the Lone Star 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Points leader Greg Ray of Plano will attempt to wrap up his first Pep Boys Indy Racing League championship in the Lone Star 500. Points runnerup and Indy 500 winner Kenny Brack, a Swede who resides in Houston along with his car owner A.J. Foyt, will seek to overtake Ray and ring up his second straight IRL title.
Rays machine suffered a broken timing chain in the Vegas.com 500 at Las Vegas Sunday which relegated him to a 21st-place finish and a 14-point margin --256 to 242 over Brack. Ray will be seeking to establish a new IRL season mark with four should he take the Lone Star 500 victory in the Glidden/Menards Dallara.
Brack won last years Pep Boys Million for Foyt and sponsor The Power Team. Brack switched from a Dallara chassis to a G Force at Las Vegas and responded with a runnerup finish. Brack and Foyt hope the change will garner a second win this season and the title at the Lone Star 500.
Sam Schmidt, the race winner at Las Vegas, currently ranks third in the standings with 225. Trailing Schmidt, all with mathematical chances at the Pep Boys Million are Scott Sharp (209), Scott Goodyear (207) and Buddy Lazier (204).
Tickets for the Lone Star 500 are on sale seven days a week at the Texas Motor Speedway ticket office, by calling the ticket hotline at (817) 215-8500, on-line at www.texasmotorspeedway.com and at all area TicketMaster locations.
