USAC point leaders rake in Pennzoil Pacesetter Awards

Point leaders in various USAC racing series as August 9 earned cash bonuses from Pennzoil in recognition of their accomplishments so far this season.Accepting cash awards of $750 each were Coors Light Silver Bullet Series point leaders Ryan Newman (driver) and M & L Plumbing (entrant), Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series leaders Dave Darland (driver) and Dynamics, Inc. (entrant), MCI WorldCom National Midget Car Series leaders Jason Leffler (driver) and Steve Lewis (entrant), MCI WorldCom Western Midget Car leaders Marc DeBeaumont (driver) and Jim DeBeaumont and Richard Sewell (entrants), MCI WorldCom TQ Midget Car Series leader Greg Edenholm (total of $1,500 for driver and entrant) and Western Sprint Car Series leader Bud Kaeding (total of $1,500 for driver and entrant).
Additional Pennzoil Awards will be distributed to leading USAC participants at the USAC National Awards Dinner in Indianapolis, Ind. January 8.
Newman is the only driver to post more than one victory in Coors Light Silver Bullet Series, winning races at Indianapolis Raceway Park and Madison, Ill. Darland's victories have come at Putnamville, Ind. (Indiana Sprint Week) and Salem, Ind. (Joe James/Pat O'Connor Memorial). Leffler won the "Copper World Classic" at Phoenix, Ariz. and at Anderson Speedway, plus the non-point "Summer Sizzle '99" feature at the 16th Street Speedway.
DeBeaumont has posted wins at Irwindale and Stockton, Calif. and Edenholm's wins have come at Irwindale and Ventura, Calif. Kaeding has four Sprint wins at Irwindale to his credit.
The above listed drivers and teams earned Pennzoil awards based on their display of Pennzoil patches and decals in compliance with contingency program requirements.
