USAC: Boone, Edenholm Garner Wins at Ventura; TQs Return July 27th

21 July 1999

Bobby Boone of Palmdale, Calif. and Greg Edenholm of Agouro, Calif. captured feature victories in Saturday night's USAC MCI WorldCom "doubleheader" at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway.

Boone's victory in the 30-lap Midget Car event was his first this season and left him in fourth place in the series standings going into the July 31 Midget Car/TQ Midget Car "doubleheader" at Bakersfield, Calif. He passed Australian champion Michael Kendall on the 23rd lap and led the rest of the way in his Pennzoil/A & A/L & T Clutches Esslinger. Series point leader Marc DeBeaumont, Larry Brown, Sleepy Tripp and fast qualifier Wally Pankratz rounded out the "top-five" at the checkered flag. Tripp led the opening lap before yielding to Kendall.

Edenholm's second win of the 1999 season came in a wire-to-wire victory in the 20-lap TQ Midget Car feature. Series point leader Josh Wise was second ahead of West Evans, Josh Lakatos and fast qualifier Troy Barkley. Edenholm now trails Wise by only 10 points in the new series standings, with lady driver Randi Pankratz third after finishing seventh at Ventura.

The USAC Western Sprint Car Series resumes this Saturday night with a 30-lap feature event slated at the 3/8-mile paved Rocky Mountain Raceways oval in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Calif. continues to lead that series' standings in his BK Motorsports Special.

In a new addition to the 1999 USAC calendar, the MCI WorldCom TQ Midget Cars will return to the Ventura Raceway on Wednesday night, July 27.
