USAC: Coors Light Silver Bullet Qualifying Results from Nazareth

NAZARETH, PA - Results Friday (July 16) from qualifying for Saturday's USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet race at Nazareth Speedway, with starting position, car number in parentheses, driver, hometown and speed.

Jimmy Sills of Placerville, Calif. captured the pole starting position for Saturday's 100-mile USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet race at Nazareth Speedway, posting a qualifying speed of 135.185 mph. in his True Value/Chevy/Beast. It marked the 20th time Sills had been the fastest qualifier in the series which dates back to 1971.

Sills will be joined by defending series champion Jason Leffler of Long Beach, Calif. on the front row for Saturday's race. Leffler wualified at 134.907 mph., the second-fastest of 36 qualifiers on the 1-mile paved oval. The race is the first for the series at the Nazareth oval since it was paved in 1987, although the series' inaugural was held on a 1-1/8-mile dirt oval at the same site in 1971.

Nazareth's a pretty challenging track and every corner you go into presentes a new challenge," said Sills after Friday's run. "It's going to be a hard place to run but there are some places to pass here. When I went out for hot laps I tried to follow Mike Bliss' line. He's then only one who has run here before, so that helped me a lot."

A 15-mile "qualifying race" is scheduled at 11 am Saturday and the 100-mile feeatur egets the green flag at 5 pm.
