USAC: Sprint Cars at Attica Friday Night, Eldora Saturday, Winchester Sunday

Brian Tyler of Parma, Mich. leads the Stoops Freightliner USAC Sprint Cars into a trio of events this weekend which could be pivotal for 1999 series championship hopefuls.

Tyler leads Derek Davidson by 12 points going into Friday night's program at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park. A 30-lap feature caps the activities on the 1/3-mile dirt oval which produced Kevin Thomas' only victory of last season. Practice starts at 6 p.m. and racing gets under way at 8.

Tyler then heads for back-to-back races at Rossburg, Ohio and Winchester, Ind. on Saturday and Sunday night in an attempt to win his fourth consecutive "Border Wars" title. "Border Wars V" includes 30-lap features at both the 1/2-mile dirt Eldora Speedway and the 1/2-mile paved Winchester Speedway. Practice at Eldora begins at 6:30 pm and racing commences at 8. Sunday's Winchester program opens with practice at 11:30 am and racing starts at 2.

Tyler has claimed the "Border Wars" championship the past three years, beating Tim Cox and J.J. Yeley by eight points last year. Tony Stewart won the inaugural "Border Wars" championship in 1995.

Track records drivers will aim at this weekend include Brian Hayden's 1998 record of 13.647 seconds at Attica, Jimmy Sills' 1998 record of 15.312 seconds at Eldora and Brian Gerster's April 11 record of 14.391 seconds at Winchester.
