PETERSEN AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM TRIBUTE TO THE TRANS-AM: The Petersen Automotive Museum is hosting a Tribute to the Trans-Am, Saturday, January 30, 1999, at 6 p.m., at the Petersen Automotive Museum, 6060 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, Calif. The gala features former Trans-Am stars and other special guests, including George Follmer, Dan Gurney, Jim Hall, Parnelli Jones, Milt Minter and Carroll Shelby. On display will be several restored Trans-Am cars, such as the Sunoco Camaro, the Bud Moore Mustang and Roy Woods Javelin. The tribute also includes no-host cocktails, dinner and vintage film footage, and costs $45 per person. To meet a pre-Long Beach publication deadline, we will NOT be taking head-shot photos at any events, and therefore everyone's cooperation is needed in obtaining a current photo (1998 photos will not be used in 1999). In an effort to present each series in a professional manner, any bio that is sent without a driver photo will NOT BE PUBLISHED in the Race Guide. Send photos to SCCA Pro Racing, attention Dave Bratten. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support of these promotional efforts.
U.S. F2000 NEWS: Twenty-nine drivers are on the initial U.S. F2000 National Championship season entry list, including several top veterans and a host of series newcomers. Among the top returning drivers are 1998 National Championship Rookie of the Year Marc-Antoine Camirand and 1998 Oval Crown Rookie of the Year Bobby Oergel. Camirand will again team with cycling legend-turned race car driver Greg LeMond at Key Motorsports. Oergel returns with DSTP Motorsportsimporter of the new French-made Mygale chassis. 1998 Star Mazda Champion Ian Lacy will be Oergel's teammate. Valvoline Runoffs Formula Continental (F2000) runner-up Mark Dismore Jr. (son of IRL driver Mark Dismore) and Formula Ford World Finals runner-up Danny Wheldon will lead an all-rookie Primus Racing team. Costa Rican Daniel Muniz will be the third driver for the defending series champions. Wheldon fills the seat vacated by 1998 U.S. F2000 Champ (and 1998 FFWF teammate) David Besnard. Other top returning drivers include Minneapolis race-winner Jonathan Bottoms (Richard Morgan Racing Van Diemen), Aaron Justus (Cape Motorsports Van Diemen), Larry Foyt (A.J. Foyt Enterprises Tatuus), Rolando Quintanilla (Hertfelder Motorsports Van Diemen), Alex Garcia (Transnet Racing Van Diemen), Larry Oberto (Oberto Beef Jerky Tatuus) and Jeff Glenn (Carbir Motorsports Carbir). The U.S. F2000 season begins with the Phoenix 200, March 28.
