Tracks: Tiller & Brown Take Lead in Bloomington Speedway Points
9 July 1998
BLOOMINGTON, IN - Bloomington's Matt Tiller and Cory Brown, of Bedford, raced their way to the top of their respective divisions in Bloomington Speedway track points last Friday.Tiller, who earned his first Bloomington feature race victory of the season two weeks ago, edged three points ahead of Albert Webb with a fourth place finish on Friday night. Scoring his second feature win of the year, Ray Humphrey jumped from fifth to third in the standings, behind Webb. With his best finish of the season (second place on Friday), John DeMoss climbed to fourth in the points. Troy Jarvis slipped from third to fifth.
In four WalMart Tire & Lube Express Street Stock races at Bloomington this season, Cory Brown has been runner-up three times. Although he hasn't earned the top paycheck in the division yet, the strong finishes pushed him 13 points ahead of Gerald Todd. Don Short finished third last Friday, jumping to third in the points. Perry Bruce and J.D. Francis each slipped a spot, and check in fourth and fifth.
While the Pennzoil Cup sprint cars did not complete last Friday, there is no change in the standings. Eric Burns, of Brazil, continues to hold the sprint car series point lead. Driving for the Turbines Inc./Mills Motorsports group, Burns has finished second and third in the two events he's run. Last year's Pennzoil Cup titleist, Brad Fox is in second place with one race win. Robbie Rice, Butch Winings and Scott Hamilton complete the top five.
The Pennzoil Cup non-wing sprint cars return to the racing program at Bloomington Speedway this Friday. Bloomington's WalMart Tire & Lube Express Street Stocks and open wheel modifieds are also in action at the south side oval. In addition to the racing activity, Paul Shafer's 'Monster Patrol' will display it's car crushing prowess. The monster truck houses a 572 cubic inch Keith Black engine that produces 1600 horsepower. And as a special racing bonus, the sprint car division owners and mechanics race will expose the competitive talents of those who normally spend their time turning wrenches and writing checks.
The pit gate opens at 4:30, and the grandstand gates at 5:30 pm. Hot laps begin at 6:00, with racing at 7:45. General admission is just $10, with all fans ages 12 and under admitted FREE when accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $20.
