Fiat Chrysler (FCA) is open to pursuing alliances and merger opportunities if they make sense but a sale of its luxury brand Maserati is not an option, Chief Executive Mike Manley said in Geneva on Tuesday. “We have a strong independent future, but if there is a partnership, a relationship or a merger which strengthens that future I will look at that,” Manley told reporters at the Geneva car show.

The transition towards the electrification of vehicles is a challenge for the car industry and whoever manages it best will succeed, the CEO of German automaker Volkswagen Group told CNBC Tuesday. VW Group is one of the world's largest automakers and comprises twelve brands including VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Porsche.

Renault's new CEO told CNBC that there is no "question mark" hanging over his firm's alliance with Japanese firms Nissan and Mitsubishi. Thierry Bollore said that over the last month the company had spent a large amount of time working with its Japanese partners to re-establish trust.
