LAKELAND, Fla.—Hey rideshare drivers in the Sunshine State, GEICO has just made it a lot easier on you and your wallet. The company is now offering its low-cost ridesharing insurance product to drivers in Florida.

“Let’s face facts, if you drive for Uber, Lyft, Sidecar or any other on-demand services, you have one goal in mind – to earn money,” said Othello Powell, assistant vice president of GEICO commercial lines. “It doesn’t make good financial sense to spend most of your rideshare earnings paying for costly insurance coverage.”

Rideshare insurance can be pricey. Some carriers require drivers to get an additional policy to protect against coverage gaps between their ridesharing and personal use. Two separate policies, means drivers would have to pay for two premiums. And that’s in addition to keeping up with multiple coverages, claims and deductibles for one vehicle.

Powell noted that two insurance policies can be costly and difficult to manage. “Our goal was to give rideshare drivers in Florida complete comprehensive protection, rolled into one policy at an affordable price,” said Powell. "At the end of the day, it’s all about saving money.”

GEICO offers the product through GEICO Commercial at a price significantly lower than taxi and traditional commercial rates. GEICO's ridesharing product is now offered in 37 states and the District of Columbia.
