The latest event in Bark River saw the northwest Wisconsin resident finish third and fifth during Rounds 7 and 8 respectively. With the season heading into the home stretch, Ruppel is currently in second the Championship chase. The reconfigured TORC PRO-2WD class has definitely reduced the cost to build a competitive race truck, but like in any form of racing monetary support is still key to creating a Championship winning team. The #37 Maxxis Tire/Petit Development/Chetek Off-Road race truck uses product and service support from a variety of partners including several friends. As the 2017 TORC season has progressed Eric and his crew have five top-5 finishes including three third place finishes and a win at the season opener in Joliet. As Ruppel Motorsports heads to Buchanan, Michigan for this weekend's "Rumble at Red Bud," driver and team knows top three finishes are a must to stay in the Championship fight. "We are having a good year, but there's no room for a miscue the rest of the way," remarked Eric Ruppel. "My team works really well together and we get the most out of the truck. It's been a fun year, but there's plenty of racing left in the season. Whether its catching Luke Johnson (current points leader) or going door-to-door with Dorr, Lovell, Peterson, Conrad, Hanegraaf or anyone that lines up at the start we believe this team can finish at on top of the podium." Even as Ruppel is still racing for a 2017 championship, 2018 preparations are already underway as the team has purchased a newer PRO-2 chassis that will basis for the next season's race truck.
