How many more birds, and fish, and humans have to die before we free ourselves from dependence on petroleum fuels?

AUTO CENTRAL - July 7, 2017: It's nice that France is talking about doing away with gasoline and diesel fueled vehicles by 2040, but why the wait?

In 2008, The Auto Channel published a paper by Marc Rauch (TACH's exec. vice president and co-publisher) that called for an end to new gasoline vehicles by 2014 - you know, three years ago. Marc believed that if Barack Obama followed through on any of his energy promises that the necessary action was possible. Alas, Obama was a dud and the oil industry continued to rule the roost.

The point is, for every day that goes by more people die from the effects of petroleum based fuels... and there's a lot of days between now and 2040. There is no reason to wait because every new gasoline powered vehicle being built right now can easily be adjusted to run on ethanol with minimal gasoline or other ingredient to help with cold starting; and every diesel powered vehicle can run on ethanol based bio-diesel. This would be a boon for all economies, giant steps forward in cleaning the air and water, and a significant deterrent to new petroleum related wars.
