SACRAMENTO - August 11, 2015: For years we've been telling you that all modern gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks in America can run safely, economically and efficiently on ethanol-gasoline blends that are higher than e10. This includes all modern passenger cars and trucks, not just flex-fuel vehicles. In most areas of the country you can only find e10 and e85, so the only way to experiment with a higher blend is by "splash blending" your own concoction. This means pulling up to a gasoline pump and pumping in the desired amount, and then pulling up to the e85 pump and pumping in the quantity of your choice.

Why would you want to do this? To save money - ethanol is less expensive than gasoline; to help America get rid of its dependence on foreign oil; and to further limit harmful engine emissions.

If you'd been wanting to try this, then this Wednesday - in certain areas of Northern California - is just what you've been waiting for because you can buy as much Pearson Oil e85 as you want for just 85 cents per gallon.

Typically, I run my 2002 non-flex fuel Ford Taurus on about a 40% blend level; in other words, e40. I have run the car on just e10, and I've run the car on a full tank of e85. I keep it at around e40 for two reasons: First, I can't always find e85, so as I drive around and need to fuel up I'm often stuck with putting e10 only in the tank. When I get back to where e85 is available I don't need a full tank, so I can only top off with a lesser amount of e85. The combination keeps me at around e40.

The second reason I keep it at about e40 is that anything higher and my "check engine" light comes on. I know from experience that the light coming on from using e50 to e85 is meaningless, but like everyone else, I like having a working "check engine" light in case something really goes wrong. As I've seen for myself in this car and in dozens of test cars that I've driven over the years, the "check engine" light will extinguish after the ethanol level falls below whatever criteria the particular vehicle allows. But there is no damage done to the vehicle, and no lasting effects. The only negative effect is that the gasoline companies and foreign terrorist regimes don't make as much money from me. Of course, I don't consider that a "negative" effect, I consider it positive...for my wallet and for America.

So, if you live or are traveling through the Northern California cities listed below, this Wednesday between 8AM and 5PM, why not pull up to one of the Pearson Fuels e85 pumps and squeeze off a gallon or more of "fuel freedom" for just 85 cents per gallon.

We believe you'll be so delighted with the results and with the lower price per gallon of e85 (even at it's regular prices) that you'll become a frequent splash blender, too.
