Grand Am Rolex - Bailey Tapped As Chief Appealant For Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Dec. 31, 2012: GRAND-AM Road Racing announced today that Roger Bailey has been named the sanction body’s chief appellate officer, taking the position vacated by the retirement of John Bishop.

In his role, Bailey will serve as the final judge of appeals of any GRAND-AM decision or penalty.

Bailey won the British Formula 3 championship with Jackie Stewart in 1964 and helped build the Le Mans-winning Ford GT40 Mk IIs in 1966. He helped build McLaren’s engines that dominated the SCCA Can-Am and won the Indianapolis 500 in 1974 and 1976. He was also IMSA’s technical director from 1980-84.

For 26 years, Bailey ran open-wheel racing’s primary support series, successively known as the American Racing Series, Firestone Indy Lights and the IRL Indy Pro Series.

Bishop held the position since the founding of GRAND-AM in 1999. He co-founded the International Motor Sports Association with William H.G. France in 1969, and ran America’s leading sports car sanctioning body through the sale of the organization in 1990.

GRAND-AM’s 2013 season opens with the 51st Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 26-27 at Daytona International Speedway.
