Pirelli World Challenge - Series Added To 2013s Austrailian Super Car Weekend At COTA

TOPEKA, Nov. 16, 2012: As Formula 1 gets set to race at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, WC Vision today announced the Pirelli World Challenge will race there May 17-19, 2013. The announcement of the COTA race completes the 2013 Pirelli World Challenge Schedule.

GT, GTS, Touring Car and Touring Car B-Spec teams will race on the 20-turn, 3.4-mile track as part of a big weekend event with the Australian V8 Supercars Championship. GT and GTS teams and drivers will compete in two races, while TC and TCB competitors will run three races.

“We are excited to announce the Pirelli World Challenge will race at the Circuit of the Americas as part of a big sports car weekend in May of 2013,” said Scott Bove, President and CEO, WC Vision. “The new COTA facility is state of the art and we look forward to putting on a good show for the fans alongside the Australian V8 Supercars Championship.”

Last week, WC Vision announced plans to race at Lime Rock Park, July 4-6. In total, GT and GTS teams and drivers will run 13 races competing for overall Drivers’, Manufacturers’ and Team Championships in 2013. Touring Car and Touring Car B-Spec teams and drivers will compete in a total of 14 races in 2013.

An announcement from WC Vision is forthcoming that will outline the full 2013 Pirelli World Challenge TV schedule on NBC Sports Network and plans for full live-streaming of races at www.world-challengetv.com including qualifying sessions.

The 2013 season marks the 24th consecutive season for Pirelli World Challenge. Series races feature thrilling standing starts, adrenaline filled door-to-door action and world-class drivers. Pirelli World Challenge features cars from the world's most popular manufacturers – race-prepped versions of the cars driven on the streets.
