Pro Karting - Giebler Racing's Ethan Wilson Wins SKUSA ProKart TaG Master Opener

BUTTONWILLOW, Feb. 15, 2012: Phil Giebler Racing’s Ethan Wilson drove to victory in the feature in TaG Master in the Superkarts! USA ProKart Challenge season opener Saturday (Feb. 11) at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.

Wilson, a 42-year-old from Campbell, Calif., won by 4.424 seconds over runner-up Paul Bonilla in the 20-lap race on the .7-mile track. He started third, took the lead on the second lap and led the rest of the way to the checkered flag. It was the debut event with the team for the SKUSA ProTour 2010 TaG Master champion.

“Ethan had a great day and progressively got faster,” Giebler said. “It was a great way to start our relationship.”

Wilson finished third in the two 10-lap heat races and qualified fifth fastest.

Nicky Freytag finished fourth in the S1 Pro Stock Moto feature in his debut race with the team and in the class. The 20-year-old from Paradise Valley, Ariz., was fourth and fifth in the two heats and fifth fastest in qualifying. Freytag was making his debut in the class.

“Nicky was adapting to the new chassis of the FA Kart and had a decent run in his first S1 race,” Giebler said.

Noah Grey of Dana Point, Calif., finished sixth in the TaG Junior feature.

“Noah Grey had to overcome some mechanical problems that took him out of the first heat race,” Giebler said.

Grey didn’t complete the opening heat and was classified 16th. He rebounded to take eighth in the second heat. Grey was 13th in qualifying.

Jess Peterson of Sparks, Nev., finished 11th in the TaG Senior feature. He was 11th and 15th in the two heats and 11th fastest in qualifying.

Mason Daughters of Polo, Mo., had a problem-filled event in TaG Senior. The development driver for Level 5 Motorsports suffered an engine failure in qualifying, putting him at the back of the grid for the first heat race. Daughters climbed to sixth, but was 15th in the second heat. He was 20th in the feature, falling out after completing 12 of 20 laps.

“Mason did great to recover from a tough qualifying, making a solid charge up to sixth from the back of the field,” Giebler said. “He was 14th in the final and making progress when he went for a pass and at the same time had to avoid an accident occurring just in front of him. Mason had to make a sudden stop and killed the engine.”

Fauzi Dib Saad of Mexico finished fifth in S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto feature. He was 10th and 12th in the two heats and 12th in qualifying.

Dallas Hollins was 13th in the feature in TaG Junior in her first event with Phil Giebler Racing. The 14-year-old from Fontana, Calif., didn’t complete the first heat, classified 16th with seven laps completed, was 14th in the second heat and 13th in qualifying.

“Dallas had a tough race, but she is at the beginning of her development stage with us and I am excited to see her progress throughout the year,” Giebler said.
