BROOKLYN, July 12, 2011: Automobile enthusiasts will have the chance to show off their cars or admire the cars of others in the infield of Michigan International Speedway during the Onsted Kiwanis Show Car Nationals on Saturday, July 16.
The Show Car Nationals have been hosted by Michigan International Speedway for more than a decade and has allowed the track to be even more involved with the community.
“This event not only helps the Kiwanis Club of Onsted, but allows members from the community and surrounding areas the chance to see what Michigan International Speedway has to offer besides great racing,” Alisha Cottrell, director of community and government affairs for Michigan International Speedway said.
The event is a great chance for car enthusiasts to show off their pride and joy, and receive recognition for their hard work. More than 130 awards will be given out at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Participants also have the chance to cruise the high banks of the historic two-mile oval, something most people can only dream about.
Spectators can experience the 18 degrees of banking in the track’s turns at a slightly slower speed by cruising around the track on a tram. Tram Track Rides will be available with a $1 donation per person, making the experience all the more rewarding. All proceeds from donations will go to MIS Cares.
Rain or shine, gates open at 7 a.m., and the “early birds” can enjoy an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast served by Onsted Boy Scout Troop 637 for $5.
The car show will kick off at 10 a.m. with the singing of the U.S. and Canadian National Anthems. Throughout the day, arts and crafts and other vendors will be on hand, and concessions will also be available by the Onsted Athletic Boosters. There will also be a Friday night kickoff party in downtown Onsted, Mich. featuring an A’Cappella Tribute to the Legends of Doo Wop from 6-9 p.m.
Admission for spectators of the Show Car Nationals is $2, with children under the age of 14 admitted free. Those who wish to participate in the car show may still register the day of the show before noon for $20 for the show, or $25 for the show and the cruise.
