WATKINS GLEN, June 8, 2011: A strong field of Cayman Interseries competitors is headed to Watkins Glen International this weekend for the SVRA Historic Enduro 200, but another major event for the series will also be top of mind this weekend for series teams and drivers.

The Historic Enduro 200 marks the first appearance of the Cayman Interseries for an official championship race on the legendary Watkins Glen International circuit that hosted the 29th annual Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen just this past weekend. Many of the competing Caymans entered in the Historic Enduro 200 carry the classic paint-schemes of some of the most popular Porsches that have competed in the six-hour race over the last few decades.

The list includes local driver Scott Welliver who drives a blue and orange-striped Cayman S that showcases the classic livery of the Gulf/Wyer Porsche 917Ks that raced in Six Hours of The Glen in 1970 and ’71. Welliver partners with co-driver Will Conniff this weekend in his No. 20 Cayman S.

Bill Dennis will co-drive with multiple road-racing champion Jack Baldwin in his bright red No. 5 Cayman S that pays tribute to the legendary No. 5 Bob Akin/Coca-Cola Porsche 935s and 962s that raced at The Glen back in the 1980s. Dennis teams with Bill Riddell who drives a No. 80 Cayman S that carries the distinctive striped-theme of the Team Salzburg Porsche 917Ks that raced against the Gulf cars in those early ‘70s runnings of the six-hour race.

Another entry that should be familiar to diehard Watkins Glen fans is the No. 49 Cayman S of Mark Sandridge and co-driver Joe Varde. The white, red and yellow car is themed after the IMSA championship-winning 1994 Team Salad Porsche 911 RSR that made several appearances at Watkins Glen during its title reign.

While this weekend’s event at The Glen is next order of business, Cayman Interseries competitors are also making plans to participate in the upcoming Rennsport Reunion IV.

The Cayman Interseries was honored with an exclusive invitation to participate in the premier celebration of Porsche competition excellence and history, but teams and drivers intending to go must still file entries by June 30. Online entries are available here while downloadable forms are available to FAX or mail here. Entries submitted by FAX can be sent to (831) 373-0533. The deadline for any submitted entries is June 30, just a little over three weeks away.
