INDIANAPOLIS, May 14, 2011: Window World, Inc., the nation's largest replacement window company and primary sponsor of John Andretti's No. 43 Indianapolis 500 entry, today unveiled "The Stinger" - a 2011 concept show car and tribute to the 1911 Marmon Wasp and the centennial era of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race.
The No. 100 "Stinger," featuring a yellow and black color scheme taken directly from the original Indy 500 winner, is a current, state of the art IndyCar show car and features enhancements that include a fully chromed engine, gold wheels and LED accent lights.
Beginning today and through the 2011 Indianapolis 500 on May 29, "The Stinger" will be on display in the MotoGP garage area near Gasoline Alley at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Fans can get a first-hand look at the car, which also features a graphics package highlighting the name of every Indianapolis 500 starter still living today. Currently, the names of 268 drivers appear on the car with a space for five more, pending the outcome of Indianapolis 500 qualifications on May 21 and 22.
To further support the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, the Window World Cares foundation has invited each of the race's former starters to autograph the car as it sits on display at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. For each signature, Window World Cares will make a donation of support.
Since its creation in 2008, Window World Cares is responsible for raising more than $1.6 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and is also a sponsor of the Veterans Airlift Command.
Tammy Whitworth, CEO, Window World, Inc. and co-founder, Window World Cares: "The story of the Stinger is a story of hope - for children and their families battling life-threatening diseases, and for wounded or special needs soldiers and their families who have battled for our freedom. The legends of the Indianapolis 500 have served as inspiration to those who race, but it is the children and families we work with on a daily basis that inspire us to do all we can to help."
Dana Deem, president, Window World, Inc.: "We are honored to present the 2011 Stinger in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500. Window World has been fortunate to have played a role in the past three Indy 500s as a primary sponsor, and it is a privilege for us to highlight the legends of the past and all those that made this race what it is today."
