NEW SMYRNA, Feb. 16, 2011: The sounds of screeching tires and crunching metal have been commonplace during the 45th running of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway, but newcomer Cody Coughlin, the 15-year-old upstart from Delaware, Ohio, has proven adept at avoiding all the accidents and keeping his JEGS.com Chevrolet Impala Late Model Stock Car clean through the first four races.

Coughlin, the grandson of drag racing Hall of Famer Jeg Coughlin, finished 11th in Tuesday nights crash-plagued race, his best result of the week. With coaching from Landon Cassill, the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year, Coughlin has been working hard at recognizing trouble spots and driving around the trouble that can crop up at any turn.

With two races left on his ledger, to be run Wednesday and Friday night, Coughlin will look to keep his nose clean on the half-mile high-banked oval. Then it's off to Daytona for the 500, where Coughlin will trade his driver's seat for one in the stands.
