F1 Drivers Pay Tribute To The Unsung Heroes

London, Nov. 1, 2010: At the recent Grand Prix Mechanics Reunion - a gathering of mechanics who have worked in F1 pit lanes over the last five decades - former drivers Damon Hill, Sir Jackie Stewart, Martin Brundle and John Watson paid tribute to the unsung heroes of the pit lane. The Reunion was organised by the Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust, a registered charity dedicated to the wellbeing of F1 mechanics past and present. The event took place at the headquarters of the Williams F1 team, thanks to the generosity of Sir Frank Williams and Patrick Head.

For over 20 years, the Trust has helped a wide range of mechanics and is actively engaged in advising and helping current and past mechanics. A growing number of former Grand Prix mechanics have reached retirement without a company pension, health insurance or similar. Often, it is after they have left the security of their F1 team that, in times of hardship, they or their families need help and assistance.

The Trust has created a register of Grand Prix Mechanics, which enables mechanics to get back in touch with old friends and colleagues. Former and current F1 mechanics are invited to register with the Trust by contacting admin@gpmechanicstrust.com
