Agenda Set To Deal With Racing's Most Significant Safety Issues at ICMS Convention Preceding PRI Trade Show

LAGUNA BEACH, Oct. 27, 2010: The agenda has been set for the International Council of Motorsport Sciences (ICMS) Annual Congress as the Council addresses many of the most pressing safety issues in motorsports today. The ICMS, one of the premier race safety organizations in the world, will hold its congress December 7-8, in conjunction with the 2010 PRI Trade Show, in the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

The four major themes to be discussed over the two days will be:

Dec. 7 (Morning) - Assessment and Management of Severe Injury
Dec. 7 (Afternoon) - Current Safety Concerns in Motorsports
Dec. 8 (Morning) - The Driver as an Athlete
Dec. 8 (Afternoon) - Driver’s Safety Symposium

Over the course of the two days, individual topics will include on-scene injury assessment, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, carbon monoxide in closed cars, as well as the latest advancements made in NASCAR, Open-Wheel Racing, Drag Racing, Rally Racing, Karting and track safety. In addition, driver issues such as fitness, injury prevention, heat stress and nutrition will be addressed. “The drivers are the heroes for all of motorsports and their safety has to be at the forefront of the sport,” said Steve Lewis, PRI Trade Show producer. “The ICMS Congress brings the latest safety advancements in the industry to Orlando this December and it’s really a must for those not only in the motorsports medical and safety fields, but also track operators and professional race teams. The Indianapolis-based ICMS is an association of medical professionals, scientific, motorsports health personnel and other interested persons concerned with the improvement in performance and safety in racing. Dr. Hugh Scully is the ICMS chairman and former president of the Canadian Medical Association. He’s joined on the board by vice chairman Arnie Kuhns, president of the SFI; vice chair/secretary Dan Andrews; and renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Terry Trammel serves as ICMS treasurer.

The 2010 PRI Trade Show, which will be held Dec. 9-11 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, will feature more than 1,000 motorsports companies as exhibitors, displaying in 3,000 booths.
