Las Vegas, October 23, 2010: Jeg Coughlin Jr. enters this weekend’s NHRA Las Vegas Nationals as the seventh-ranked driver in the Pro Stock class. Coughlin trails leader Greg Anderson by 192 points with two events remaining in the 2010 NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
Jeg Jr. has won five Pro Stock titles at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway including the inaugural event in 2000. He has also banked wins in 2001, 2002, 2008, and 2009. Jeg Jr's final round opponents are Warren Johnson (2000, 2002), Jim Yates (2001), and Greg Stanfield (2008, 2009).
In addition to his five victories, Jeg Jr. has also earned two runner-up finishes at this track, both of them in 2007. He reached the final of the Spring and Fall races that year, and lost to Greg Anderson each time.
Jeg Jr. has qualified in the top half of the Pro Stock field nine times in Las Vegas including a best of No. 1 in 2007 and 2008. During his career, Jeg Jr. has qualified in the top spot17 times.
After the first 21 races of the 2010 season, Jeg Jr. has claimed four wins and appeared in six final rounds in NHRA national event competition. He earned victories in Houston, Atlanta, Sonoma, and Brainerd and also reached the final round in St. Louis and Denver.
Racing in the Top Dragster class, Jeg Jr. also won the NHRA O’Reilly Midwest Nationals earlier this season behind the wheel of his brother, John’s 200-mph JEGS.com dragster.
In 19 appearances at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (including the spring event held in April), Jeg Jr. has a round win record of 36-12 in Pro Stock competition.
With 52 career Pro Stock wins, Jeg Jr. ranks fourth all-time among Pro Stock drivers. Only Warren Johnson (97), Bob Glidden (85) and Greg Anderson (64) have more titles.
Jeg Coughlin Jr. is a four-time NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock champion. He earned season titles in 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2008. As a sportsman driver, Jeg Jr. also claimed the NHRA Super Gas championship in 1992.
In 281 career Pro Stock races, Jeg Jr. has reached the final round 83 times, recording 52 wins. Including his 14 sportsman victories, Jeg Jr. has won a total of 66 times, good for ninth place on NHRA’s all time wins list. During his career, Jeg Jr. has appeared in102 final rounds, 83 as a professional and 19 as a sportsman racer.
During his Pro Stock career, Jeg Jr. has recorded 469 round wins while incurring just 216 losses. He has failed to advance past the opening round just 68 times.
Jeg Jr. will be joined in Las Vegas by his brothers, John and Troy, who will be racing in Comp Eliminator and Pro Mod respectively. Last year, Troy’s son, T.J., won the Super Comp title in Las Vegas.
John Coughlin is the reigning North Central Division Top Dragster champion. He made his Comp Eliminator debut earlier this year in his JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt and is currently ranked in the top ten in the Division 3 standings.
Troy Coughlin is currently the fourth ranked driver in the Get Screened America Pro Mod series with his five-second, 245-mph JEGS.com Chevy Camaro. Troy is the only racer in the Pro Mod series who has qualified for all nine events this season.
The JEGS team will also be represented by Jeg Coughlin Jr’s fiancée, Samantha Kenny, who will be racing her JEGS.com Corvette in the Super Gas class. Samantha is a former national event champion who won the 2008 Norwalk event.
In Las Vegas, the JEGS Mail Order team will host professional bowler Danny Wiseman. Wiseman is the winner of 12 major titles, and has bowled 40 perfect 300 games in his career. He is an avid automotive enthusiast and drag racing fan.
