Over $12,000 Raised For Women In The Winner's Circle Foundation In Exciting Classic 100

OVER $12,000 RAISED FOR THE WOMEN IN THE WINNER’S CIRCLE FOUNDATION

INDIANAPOLIS – October 16, 2010 – More than $12,000 was raised for the Women In the Winner’s Circle Foundation Thursday in the Classic 100 Go Kart Enduro contested at FASTIMES Indoor Karting.

The Women In The Winner’s Circle Foundation, founded by Lyn St. James in 1994, annually assists young female racers in their progression through the motorsports industry from karting to the highest levels of racing, including the IZOD IndyCar Series. The training helps prepare women racers for success in the sport, both on and off the track.

On Thursday afternoon, 33 drivers from seven teams participated at the tight indoor racing track to establish continued funding of the female foundation. Two classes were contested with the professional division (LeMans) and amateur division (Grand Prix). The LeMans competition included a 100-minute main event with 10 pit stops.

“The Classic 100 was a great charity event for our Women In The Winner’s Circle Foundation,” said St. James. “The competition was quite fierce too. The all-female team battled with two teams of professional drivers and we stayed with them for many laps. The girls did a great job. I’m thrilled with the turnout and the great interest in our organization. We look to expand the event in 2011.”

At the checkered flag, team APEX RONNOCO won the Classic 100 by just nine seconds over the NITRO NUTS. The all-women PINK NIGHTMARES squad placed third. Les Acree led the APEX RONNOCO team that included Thomas Knapp, Kevin Goon, Mike Burrell and Bo Whitney. Acree set the fastest race lap at 23.732 seconds.

The NITRO NUTS team was led by NHRA Top Fuel dragster drivers Morgan Lucas and Shawn Langdon as well as crew chief John Stewart, a former Top Fuel driver. The team led the race late in the 100-minute event, but late race contact dropped the squad to second at the finish.

The PINK NIGHTMARES contingent was made up of young racing stars Ashley Freiberg, Shannon McIntosh

and Hanna Zellers as well as veteran racers Rhonda Trammel and St. James. The female team was in the hunt for the victory, but lost several laps in the second half of the race.

Team SAKS captured the win in the Grand Prix division Thursday at FASTIMES.
