Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival Set to Celebrate Significant Automotive Anniversaries

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, October 13, 2010: The Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival, one of the nation’s signature automobile events, will include exhibits to celebrate both the 100-year anniversary of Alfa Romeo and the 50th anniversary of Jaguar E-Type (XKE) at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island, S.C., November 6 & 7, 2010.

To celebrate these marques’ contributions to automotive history, the Concours event will include a display of 12 Jaguar E-Types and up to 17 Alfa Romeos, including a rare display of classic racers, will be on exhibit Saturday and Sunday, November 6 & 7, in the Motoring Midway show field. Helen McDonald, Regional Events Manager for Jaguar Land Rover North America, said that they “are thrilled to have had the XKE selected as a special exhibit for the 2010 Festival.” In addition to the celebration of the anniversary, Jaguar will be returning as a Motoring Festival Partner for this year’s event and will offer new vehicle displays and ride and drives during the events at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island, November 6 and 7.

Paul Doerring, Chairman Emeritus for the Hilton Head Island event, launched the campaign to recruit a class of Alfas to honor their Centennial. “With it being such a significant anniversary with celebrations taking place across the United States and throughout the entire year, we knew that we were in for a challenge in recruiting vehicles. We are thrilled at the outcome and that these noteworthy examples in Alfa’s history have chosen to celebrate at Hilton Head Island,” said Doerring.

Such notable examples as a 1969 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 Coupe, 4.2 liter, Series 2 and a 1942 Alfa Romeo 6C2500 SS will be on exhibit to showcase the history of these two enduring manufacturers.

This year, the Festival will again feature its four glorious events. The signature pieces include the Savannah/Hilton Head Speed Classic managed by Historic Sportscar Racing, Ltd. (HSR), October 29 – 31 on Savannah’s Hutchinson Island, the Car Club Jamboree, November 6, the Motoring Midway, November 6 & 7 and the Concours d’Elegance, the centerpiece of the Festival, November 7, all at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island, SC.
