Braselton, September 30, 2010: Juncos Racing successfully landed all four of its cars in the top seven positions in this morning's first official practice session at Road Atlanta, resulting in the best all-around practice session the team has had this season. Finishing at the top of the time sheets was 2010 Champion Conor Daly with a lap time of 1:19.230, who secured the title at the most recent race several weeks ago at Mosport International Raceway. The Juncos Racing driver who claimed the third fastest time this morning was debut driver Martin Scuncio, already proving he has what it takes to finish at the top in his first career Star Mazda Championship race this weekend.
"It was a really good session and a lot of fun," said Daly. "We made some changes last night, so I knew our car was going to be good. It's been fast at every track we've been to so far. For the first half of the session, we just went out and evaluated the car, and then we put on some new tires and really took advantage of it. I'm really confident for the rest of the weekend, and I think there's even more room for improvement. The team has done a fantastic job yet again. Let's close the season out on a high note!"
"The session was great for me," said Scuncio. "The guys did a great job. We need to work a little bit more on gapping during the practice and qualifying sessions, but we still got some really good laps in. I'm very happy with the way this session went and looking forward to doing even better in the next one."
Continuing to weave the alternating finishing pattern for the team were rookie Tatiana Calderon who made vast improvements from yesterday's test sessions to deliver the fifth fastest lap time this morning and teammate Rusty Mitchell who rounded out the top seven with the seventh fastest lap time.
"I've improved a lot from yesterday's test sessions," said Calderon. "Peter (Dempsey) and I analyzed the video and data from yesterday very specifically and figured out what I needed to work on for today. I tried the changes today, and they worked really well for me. It was a great result for the whole team."
"It was a pretty good," said Mitchell. "At first, I struggled with grip, so it just took me a while to get going. Unfortunately on my best lap I got caught in some traffic which ended up costing me a couple of tenths, but it's still a great result for the whole team. I'm really proud of all of the guys and all my teammates. We are going to keep aiming for four cars in the top four positions!"
