Newton, June 16, 2010: After winning the last three out of four races thus far in the 2010 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear with driver Conor Daly, Juncos Racing will return to Iowa Speedway this weekend seeking its fourth consecutive win as well as its second consecutive Pizza Ranch 100 win. In 2009, the team was awarded its maiden victory as Star Mazda Championship competitors at Iowa Speedway's first annual Pizza Ranch 100 event with Irish driver Peter Dempsey. Now, Juncos Racing will once again compete on the .875-mile oval this weekend for the chance to defend its title.
With three wins so far in 2010 and a 29-point lead in the driver's championship, 18-year-old Conor Daly is hungry for yet another victory going into Round Five. Daly finished second in last season's event at Iowa Speedway as one of only four drivers to finish on the lead lap. Finishing fourth at Iowa Speedway last year was Rusty Mitchell, Juncos Racing's newest team member. Mitchell will make his debut as a Juncos Racing driver at this weekend's second annual Pizza Ranch 100 event. With a history of strong finishes on oval tracks, both of the young American drivers are odds-on favorites going into this weekend's event.
The Pizza Ranch100 event this weekend will mark the fifth ever Star Mazda Championship race and second ever oval race for Colombian driver Tatiana Calderon. Calderon's first experience on an oval track was just three weeks ago at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis. The 17-year-old made drastic improvements throughout the weekend on the .686-mile oval and even ran as high as seventh fastest in an official practice session at one point. Calderon seemed more than ready to take on the challenging race, until a shoulder injury forced her to retire early. After some rest, hard work and preparation over the past few weeks, Calderon is ready to make her return to the American-style racing track.
