Delaware, Jun 1, 2010: Jeg Coughlin is the defending Pro Stock champion at the United Association Route 66 Nationals. He defeated Mike Edwards in the final round. Jeg has also claimed wins at this event in 2002, 2003, and 2007.
Jeg Coughlin Jr. enters this weekend’s Joliet race as the third ranked Pro Stock driver in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series. Thus far in 2010, Jeg has recorded victories in Houston and Atlanta to go with a runner-up finish in St. Louis.
In 16 career appearances at Route 66 Raceway, Jeg has a round win record of 31-10 in Pro Stock competition.
Jeg has qualified in the top half of the Pro Stock field in 8 of his 16 appearances at route 66 Raceway including a best of No. 1 in 2008. He also set low elapsed time of the event in 2008 with a run of 6.705 seconds.
With 50 career Pro Stock wins, Jeg ranks fourth all-time among Pro Stock drivers. Only Warren Johnson (97), Bob Glidden (85) and Greg Anderson (60) have more titles.
In 269 career Pro Stock races, Jeg has reached the final round 80 times, recording 50 wins. Including his 14 sportsman victories, Jeg has won a total of 64 times, good for ninth place on NHRA’s all time wins list. During his career, Jeg has appeared in 99 final rounds, 80 as a professional and 19 as a sportsman racer.
Jeg is ranked No. 4 in the K&N Horsepower Challenge standings. The K&N Challenge is a special event that will take place in Norwalk, Ohio on June 26. It is a special $50,000 to win event that is open only to the top eight Pro Stock racers based on their qualifying performance over the previous year. Jeg won the 2000 version of the K&N Challenger, which was held at Route 66 Raceway.
Jeg Coughlin is a four-time NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock champion. He earned season titles in 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2008. As a sportsman driver, Jeg also claimed the NHRA Super Gas championship in 1992.
In 2009, Jeg enjoyed one of his best years as a professional racer winning seven of 23 events and reaching the final round in two others. He compiled a round-win record of 50-17, the second best record in the class.
During his Pro Stock career, Jeg has recorded 451 round wins while incurring just 206 losses. He has failed to advance past the opening round just 61 times.
Jeg will once again be doing double duty in Joliet as he will also be racing his JEGS.com Dodge Challenger Drag Pak entry in Stock eliminator. Jeg has previously won national event titles in Pro Stock, Comp, Super Stock, Super Gas, and Top Dragster. If he were to win a Stock Eliminator event, he would become the first driver in NHRA history to win in six different classes
Jeg will be joined in Joliet by his fiancée, Samantha Kenny, who will also be competing in Super Comp with her JEGS.com dragster. Samantha is a former national event winner.
The United Association Route 66 Nationals will also be the site of the annual JEGS Allstars competition which features 80 of the best drivers from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The event attracts racers from all over North America who compete for both team and individual honors.
Samantha’s brother, Jason, will be representing the Northeast Division in the Super Comp class during the JEGS Allstars. This is Jason’s first JEGS Allstars appearance.
In Topeka, Jeg will continue to promote the JEGS “Win this Car” contest on the hood of his Cagnazzi Racing Pro Stock entry. The Win this Car contest is a special promotion to celebrate the 50th anniversary of JEGS Mail Order. As part of the promotion, one lucky JEGS fans will win a yellow and black 2010 Chevy Camaro.
