INDYCAR (THE GLEN) - DIXON AND TARGET TEAM THREE-PEATS AT WATKINS GLEN

Target Chip Ganassi Racing and Scott Dixon claimed their third consecutive win at Watkins Glen International and the team’s third victory of the 2007 IndyCar Series season. Starting second, the no.9 Target powered Honda Dallara played fuel strategy perfectly, led twice for a total of 23 laps, and pulled away over the final 10 laps for a 6.2591-second victory over Sam Hornish Jr. in the Camping World Watkins Glen Grand Prix. Target teammate Dan Wheldon finished seventh.

Dixon now holds the IndyCar Series record for most consecutive races running at the finish, a streak of 26 races that began with his first victory at Watkins Glen in 2005. Dixon also equals Wheldon's record of three consecutive victories at the same track which the Brit had set in the season opener at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Scott Dixon’s win at Watkins Glen keeps him in second place (347 points) in the IndyCar Series Championship race and allows him to gain a little ground on points leader Dario Franchitti (394 points). Dan Wheldon (313 points) falls back into fourth place behind Tony Kanaan (319 points). Sam Hornish Jr. rounds out the top five with 297 points.

The Target team boasts a total of 53 wins since 1994 (IRL and Champ Car) with 29 of which have come on road or street courses. Dixon finished second on the streets of St. Petersburg earlier this season, earned this weekend’s win at Watkins Glen, and has three more road/street courses (Mid-Ohio, Sonoma, Detroit) on the schedule this season.

The team now heads to Nashville Superspeedway where they hope to defend last year’s win by Scott Dixon at the Firestone Indy 200 this Saturday night, July 14, 2007.

Scott Dixon: “We’ve had such good luck at the Glen. Today, the Target team did such a good job on pit road helping us get through some of the guys who hadn’t cycled through. You don’t know how hard you have to push to pass them. It was a great day for points. We need to make headway on Dario (Franchitti) and I think we started it today.”

Dan Wheldon: “It's a little disappointing day for the No. 10 Target team. The car wasn't so bad. The balance was pretty good. I just wasn't quite quick enough all weekend. At least we salvaged some points out of it."
