NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Friday from No Problem Raceway, Belle Rose, La.
BELLE ROSE, La. - Rookie Top Alcohol Dragster racer Lindsey Wood grabbed the No. 1 spot for this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Cajun Challenge at No Problem Raceway. The McAlpin, Fla., racer clocked in at 5.340 seconds at 264.86 mph in the Darien-Meadows owned dragster. Wood's took over the driving duties for the Darien & Meadows team when Ashley Force made the move to Top Fuel Funny Car at the start of the 2007 season.
Wood is followed by former NHRA Pacific Division Champion and current Top Fuel Dragster pilot Morgan Lucas with a 5.419 second pass at 262.13 mph. The Brownsburg, Ind., racer is pulling double duty this year campaigning his Top Alcohol Dragster in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and his top fuel dragster on the NHRA PowerAde circuit.
Jay Payne leads the Top Alcohol Funny Car field with a 5.753 second lap at 252.99 mph. Payne won the season kickoff CarQuest Winternationals last month in Pomona, Calif., and is followed by South Central Division Champion Jimmy Jones of Cleburne, Texas, in the No. 2 spot running 5.899 seconds at 246.57 mph.
Metarie, La., Comp racer Craig Bourgeois sits on top of the Comp Eliminator field with a 6.824 second run. Bourgeois won here at No Problem Raceway last year at the Jegs.com Cajun Sportsnationals. This year's sportsnationals are scheduled for April 20-22 at No Problem Raceway.
The top four drivers in the TCI Comp Cams Top Dragster class hail from Louisiana with Joey Marcotte of Denham Springs, La., on top with a run of 6.414 seconds at 173.29 mph while Michael Kile was second out of Westlake, La., at 6.582 seconds, 205.01 mph. Morrero, La., racer Peter Vicari was third and Brandon Chauvin of Gonzalez, La., was fourth quickest.
Keith Raftery leads the Reher-Morrison Top Sportsman class in his '07 GTO followed by Bret Prejean of St. Amant, La. in the second spot.
Top qualifiers in other classes were Shaun LeBlanc of Bartlett, Tenn., in Super Stock and Dempsey Pendarvis of Gonzales, La., in Stock with his '01 Firebird. Pendarvis is followed by Patrick Courts Sr. of New Iberia, La., in his '87 Trans Am. Kelly Pulley jumped to the top of the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson class with a perfect 0.000 second reaction time.
