Enders in quickest Pro Stock field in Pomona history
POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 11) -- Popular Pro Stock phenomenon Erica Enders battled her way into the quickest Pro Stock field ever assembled at the famed Auto Club Raceway in Pomona Calif., capturing the 14th starting position of the 42nd annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals with an impressive Saturday dash down the quarter mile in 6.710 seconds at 205.69 mph.
The race marks the end of the 2006 NHRA Drag Racing season and Enders feels that getting into Sunday’s elimination field is a great way to put a cap on the season.
“When you beat the best our sport has to offer, you feel a real sense of accomplishment,?? Enders said. “People like Warren Johnson, Larry Morgan, and Kenny Koretsky have been competing in Pro Stock a lot longer than me and when we elbow our way into Sunday eliminations and they can’t, it just goes to show how good this Revive-USA team really is. Our crew chief David Nickens has been working so hard.
“Yeah, we’ve struggled a little since going on our own but I think that’s to be expected. We’ll have three months to sort out our brand new Dodge Stratus waiting back in Houston and I expect big things for us in 2007. Right now though, we just need to concentrate on beating our first round opponent Sunday, Allen Johnson.??
Johnson stopped the quarter mile timers at 6.686-seconds and 206.07-mph, the third quickest run of the event.
“There’s no doubt about it, we’ll have our work cut out for us Sunday,?? Enders said. “You know, stranger things have happened and I think we have a great opportunity here to show everyone a taste of what’s to come.??
Television coverage of final eliminations will be carried on ESPN2 from 7-10 p.m. Eastern.
