EARLVILLE, Iowa - The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series
returned to Tri-State Raceway today for the conclusion of the event
started 3-weeks ago, September 8-10. The race was postponed and
rescheduled to this weekend due to heavy rain throughout the local
region.
The event, presented by Hustler Turf Equipment, Wright-Way
Trailers, and Wilwert's Harley Davidson kicked back in to action today
with time trials for all categories. Eliminations are set for 8 a.m. on
Saturday morning with round one of eliminations for Top Alcohol
Dragsters and Funny Cars scheduled for noon.
Lee Callaway of Channelview, Texas, leads the Top Alcohol
Dragster field grabbing the No. 1 qualifying spot before the event's
postponement with a run of 5.331 seconds at 270.32 mph. Callaway is
followed by Todd Datweiler in the No. 2 position and local favorite
Richard Putz of Earlville, Iowa, in fifth with a best run of 5.572
seconds, 252.00 mph.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car it was 15-time NHRA Division
Champion Vern Moats of Des Moines, Iowa, on top running 5.773 seconds at
249.63 mph in his '03 Camaro. Paul Anderson sits in second out of Erie,
Colo., and Sioux City, Iowa's Cy Chesterman is third with a 5.836
second, 250.37 mph pass.
The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event is scheduled to
conclude on Saturday with Tri-State Raceway hosting a special National
Dragster Challenge bracket race on Sunday. For more information, contact
