Vandergriff qualifies No. 16 in Memphis
2006 NHRA POWERade DRAG RACING SERIES
Round 17 of 23
O'REILLY NHRA MID-SOUTH NATIONALS
Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park
Race Date: Aug. 18-20, 2006
Memphis, Tenn., (August 19, 2006)- The UPS team had to endure remarkably hot
and humid conditions this weekend at Memphis Motorsports Park during
qualifying for the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals. Bob Vandergriff Jr. will begin
Sunday's elimination's from the No. 16 position. Vandergriff posted consistent runs
of 4.789/299.73, 4.872/294.24, and 4.762/295.66 in the rain shorten qualifying
sessions.
"The fact that we made it down the racetrack all three times was great,"
explained Vandergriff. "We are somewhat disappointed that we had
cylinder-dropping problems that are easily knocking off 1/10th [of a second] from our runs. I
feel if we can get that problem fixed we can run a middle to low 4.60 on
Sunday. Our team is headed in the right direction now. It seems that for every
change you make, It presents you with a new change that you will need to conquer.
We have two brains putting their heads together to figure this all out. I have
confidence that Jim and Wayne Dupuy will have this figured out for Sunday."
Vandergriff will meet No. 1 qualifier and defending event champion "Hot Rod"
Fuller in round one on Sunday afternoon.
