PHOENIX, AZ - May 8, 2006: Bob Gordon writing for The Auto Channel at the Clean Cities Congress reported that Senator McCain in his speech at the opening session of the conference restated his belief that nuclear power is the key source for our nation’s long term future emission’s free power generation.

Nuclear is vital he said, because he has personally witnessed the clear evidence of the impending threat from global warming and the consequences to our children and grandchildren.

He stated that we must lead the way in getting the world off of its reliance on oil based fuels which he believes will run out in the future.

Citing the fact that over 33% of the green house emissions today are generated during the production of electric power he strongly endorsed the expanded use of renewable, non polluting Nuclear power.

He said that today more than 20% of the US electric power is already generated using nuclear fuel, and that the improvement in technology should make even the staunchest foe of nuclear more comfortable with its expansion as the source for the worlds electric power needs.

The Senator also reiterated his opposition to ethanol subsidies because they would benefit only the Agra Business corporations already reaping record profits and not the family farmer.

He cannot understand how 227 Mayors can get together to agree to begin to reduce green house emissions in their cities and 100 Senators can’t get together to begin to solve our nation’s problem.

He believes the U.S. must make the effort to provide many different options to solve the need for alternative fuels for vehicles in the short to mid term.
