Wells Fargo Expands Sponsorship With Petty Enterprises to Include Entire Company
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 6, 2006 -- Wells Fargo & Company said today it has expanded its association with NASCAR's Petty Enterprises beyond Wells Fargo Financial, its consumer finance business, to encompass Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and all the company's business groups.
"Wells Fargo Financial's three-year NASCAR partnership has delivered such outstanding value for our consumer finance business, its team members and customers that we've decided to expand our association with Petty Enterprises to include all our businesses across the United States," said John Stumpf, Wells Fargo's president and chief operating officer. "Our expanded partnership with Petty Enterprises unites two legendary brands - the horsepower of Wells Fargo's 154 years and the racing horsepower of Petty Enterprises. Both are known for their market leadership and community involvement."
In addition, Wells Fargo has expanded its sponsorship with the Petty Enterprises team for the 2006 Nextel Cup Series to include drivers Kyle Petty and Bobby Labonte and a partnership with NASCAR's "King," Richard Petty. Kyle Petty's No. 45 Dodge will carry a full-car red and gold Wells Fargo paint scheme in 12 races during the 2006 season as the car's primary sponsor.
The partnership pairs the financial services company with Kyle Petty, a NASCAR driver known for his commitment to community involvement, a commitment that mirrors Wells Fargo's values, said Michael McCoy, group senior vice president for Wells Fargo Financial. Kyle Petty has been named one of the U.S.A.'s Most Caring Athletes by USA Weekend, the March of Dimes Sportsman of the Year and the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Illustrated Person of the Year. In December, he was among the nominees for the 2005 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year honor.
The Petty family's charities include operation of the Victory Junction Gang Camp, founded in honor of Kyle and Pattie's late son, Adam. During 2005 in its second year of operation, the camp in Randleman, N.C., hosted more than 900 children who suffer from chronic and/or life-threatening illnesses for a free week at the camp along with their families. The Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America has raised millions of dollars for charity during the past 10 years.
Wells Fargo's partnership with Bobby Labonte and his No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge is also new this year. Labonte, a 21-race winner, was the 2000 NASCAR points champion. "We're excited to again be working with the Petty organization and thrilled to be a part of a year that is bringing significant leadership changes to Kyle's team," said Tom Gibbons, director of corporate sponsorships for Wells Fargo Financial.
